The Long Winter of COVID

This winter was full of pain caused by Covid. Our church struggled through long, winter months, like much of the society. Shannon Rust, our chaplain, went through a horrifying experience of being a patient taken down by the virus. Dealing with being sent from one hospital to another, while his health rapidly deteriorated, he felt his time was up. God, however, had different plans, and after prolonged battle, Shannon was reunited with his family and on the road to recovery.

Key Takeaways:

  • Chaplain Shannon Rust, age 52, was admitted to a hospital with a diagnosis of double lung pneumonia.
  • His condition deteriorated to the point where a doctor said he had no hope of surviving.
  • His wife Rebecca prayed for him, and Shannon eventually recovered and returned home.

“But during the night, Rust’s symptoms worsened. He felt weaker and weaker. His breathing became more labored. He couldn’t get out of bed on his own power.”
