Surviving Satan’s Attacks (Job 1)

We’re talking about Spiritual Warfare in our current message series. Spiritual warfare is warfare between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. As every person on this earth is either a citizen of the kingdom of God or the kingdom of Satan, we are all involved in this warfare.

Every believer is part of the kingdom of God. However, did you know that you can actually aid the enemy by the things you do or the things that you say? When we aid the enemy’s cause, its treason. Everything that you do or say either aids God’s kingdom or Satan’s kingdom. As a believer everything that you do or say should be for the glory of God and His kingdom.

Today, my message is entitled “Surviving Satan’s Attacks.” War is brutal and when you’re engaged in spiritual warfare, you will be the target of Satan’s attacks. In fact, the more that God is using you, the more that Satan will attack you.

1 Peter 5:8-9 (NIV2011)  Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Oftentimes, we may think that the devil is dangerous, but if we resist him, he can’t touch us. We will just walk around in God’s blessing and nothing bad will ever touch our lives. What about when bad things happen to good people? People who seem to be walking with God and doing all the right things. Perhaps they were not what they seemed to be. But what if they were? What if they were really good, righteous people? Can bad things happen to those kind of people?

When we look closely at our passage, it appears that it is saying that believers undergo suffering. In fact, the whole letter of 1 Peter was written to suffering believers.

1 Peter 4:12-13 (NIV2011)  Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.  But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

These verses say that God allows fiery ordeals to come into believer’s lives in order to test them. This suffering is the same kind of suffering that Christ endured. We ought to rejoice in suffering for Him.

So, how can we survive Satan’s attacks? What does it mean to survive? To pass the test of Satan’s attacks, we must stand firm in the faith, not doubting. Believing that God is in control, both when our lives are full of blessing and when suffering comes into our lives. Today, we’re going to look at the book of Job, to see how to survive Satan’s attacks.
