Today we begin our Christmas message series Who Is Jesus? The title of this message series is an incredibly important question. In fact, if you really want to find out what another person believes, just ask them that very question “Who Is Jesus?” Apologetics teaches us that there are only three logical answers to that question. Jesus is either Lord of all, a Liar or a Lunatic.
Now, when you ask people that question, Who is Jesus? I have never had someone personally tell me they thought He was a Liar or a Lunatic. However, the answer most people give is not the remaining logical answer of Lord. The answer most people give is that Jesus was a good man or even a prophet, but certainly not Lord.
You see if Jesus is Lord, then He is God incarnate. If Jesus is Lord, then He still lives today and is not just a historical figure. If Jesus is Lord, then I must respond to Him and His teaching. If Jesus is Lord, I have the choice to respond in two ways, either Jesus is my Lord or Jesus is not my Lord. But if Jesus is Lord, why wouldn’t we want Him to be our Lord?
In this Christmas series, we are going to look at Who Jesus Is and how we should respond to the different aspects of His Lordship. Matthew 4:23 (NIV) Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
Jesus did two basic things. He taught & preached and He healed people of their diseases and sicknesses. Some might say, well that fine and well, but Jesus is no longer here, so how can He heal anyone? Let’s see what the early church prayed, this is the church remaining after Jesus ascended into heaven.
Acts 4:29-30 (NIV) “… Enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
Sounds exactly the same as what Jesus did, speaking the word and healing done through Jesus’ name.
Jesus our healer is important for each one of us and our families. We all need healing of many different kinds from time and time. We need healing from Jesus to make us whole, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We also can pray for other’s healing as we share our faith with them and see God answer.
